She survived, but uncontrolled urine flow forced banishment from her family and village.
You’re invited to an informal, personal presentation on the world’s first successful method to prevent obstetric fistula, a horrific condition afflicting millions of women in undeveloped regions of Africa and Asia, killing or maiming them for life. The internationally respected doctors and development professionals who created HDI’s powerful, one of its kind program will present and discuss this, and explain how you can get involved. Good health empowers women and is key to Africa’s future.
The experts include:
Dr. Anders Seim, Director of HDI and Harvard School of Public Health Alumni Award winning doctor from Norway.
Dr. Donald Hopkins, Senior Health Advisor to President Jimmy Carter, MacArthur Fellow, former acting Director CDC, Vice President and Director of Health Programs at the Carter Center and HDI Board member — world-renowned for his work to eradicate smallpox and guinea worm disease.
Mr. Julius Coles, former President of Africare (a leader among private, charitable U.S. organizations assisting Africa and the oldest and largest African-American led organization in the field of development aid for Africa) and HDI Board member, 28-year veteran of the U.S. Agency for International Development, first director of the Ralph J. Bunche International Affairs Center at Howard University, winner of Princeton’s James Madison Medal (2007) and Africa Lifetime Achievement Award (2010) and most recently director of the Andrew Young Center for International Affairs at Morehouse University — a prominent and innovative development professional.
Ambassador Barbro Owens-Kirkpatrick, former US Ambassador to the Republic of Niger, U. S. Department of State Swanee Hunt Award for Advancing Women in Policy Formulation and HDI Board Chair — a San Diegan committed to hands-on effective global poverty reduction and improving women’s health.
